New to airsoft?
Here are the things people usually want to know before their first SWAG game day.
What is airsoft?
Airsoft is a team-based action sport using air-powered replicas that fire small plastic BBs. SWAG game days use a mix of skirmishes, objective games and longer scenarios across the field.
Can complete beginners play?
Yes. New players are welcome. We brief you on safety and equipment, explain the games and encourage experienced members to help you get comfortable on the field.
Do I need my own airsoft gun?
No. SWAG has 10 loan sets. The $30 non-member option includes an airsoft gun, eye/face protection and gloves. Contact us before coming so we can confirm a set is available.
How much does it cost?
$20 for a non-member bringing their own gear, or $30 using SWAG loan gear. A 12-month membership is $100, after which regular Saturday game days have no additional field fee.
How old do I need to be?
SWAG accepts players aged 16+. Players aged 16–17 also need to meet New Zealand requirements for firearms licensing or immediate supervision when using an airgun.
When do you play?
Regular game days are every Saturday from 11am to 4pm. Contact the club before your first visit, particularly if you need loan gear.
Where is the field?
At Sandy Point Domain, Oreti Beach, Invercargill. Use the exact map pin on our Field or Contact page so you arrive at the SWAG location.
Does airsoft hurt?
A BB hit can sting, particularly at closer range or on exposed skin. Long sleeves, long trousers, gloves and proper eye/face protection make a big difference.
What should I wear?
Sturdy footwear, long trousers, long sleeves and layers suitable for Southland weather. Wear clothes you are happy to get dirty and bring food and water.
Do I need to join the club before playing?
No. You can play as a non-member and decide later whether membership makes sense for you.
Is SWAG only for experienced or tactical players?
No. The club includes people with different levels of experience and different reasons for playing. New players are actively supported, while experienced players still get a large, varied field and more involved game modes.
Can women play?
Absolutely. Women already play with SWAG. The club welcomes players based on safety, attitude and sportsmanship, not gender.
